Twelve years ago I wrote: “Too quickly, this year and decade are coming to a close. As we reflect upon the past and hope upon the future, we often turn to a higher authority in search of spiritual guidance, comfort, and renewal. That’s why I thought it best this week to print the prayer that appears on Tammy’s grave.”
Twenty-nine years have passed since Tammy was with us.
“God’s will be done.
“Please pray with us the following prayer. God hears our prayers. We put our trust in the Lord.
“Dear Heavenly Father,
“In the name of Jesus Christ, Your Son, our Savior, send Your Holy Spirit to touch the hearts of those who are shielding the secrets of how and why Tammy died. May Your love shine through the darkness surrounding those who are trapped holding on to this secret. Help them unload the burden of living in this lie. Encourage them to surrender their own wills and follow Your will. Break the bondage the evil one has on them, so that they may seek the freedom that can only be found in the light of Your truth. Show them what peace and joy there is in forgiveness that follows repentance. Continue to comfort and encourage those who struggle with the human mystery concerning Tammy’s death. We do not understand now but we know You do, Lord. Shower those still hurting with Your ever healing power. Grant all of us patience, gentleness and faithfulness as we wait for answers ever recognizing it is not our will but Thy will be done. Increase our trust in You, knowing that it is by Your grace that we have eternal life through faith in Jesus Christ. Amen.“
In 2020, this grave marker was vandalized.1
Guess who happened to be visiting Yankton and at an event next to the cemetery on the week this vandalism happened.
